LK LAW BLEEDS GARNET AND GOLD

From Florida State University to the Courtroom

At LK Law, our connection to Tallahassee runs deep. Attorney Liana Kaylor earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Florida State University before pursuing her law degree. Her time as a Seminole taught her not only discipline and resilience, but also the importance of community — values that continue to guide her law practice today. One of her proudest moments was “graduating” alongside Bailey, her loyal companion. For Liana, being a Seminole means carrying forward a spirit of grit, loyalty, and dedication — both in the courtroom and in the community.

As an FSU graduate, Attorney Liana Kaylor knows firsthand the challenges and pressures college students face. That is why LK Law offers a $250 student discount on DUI defense for clients with a valid student ID from FSU, FAMU, or TCC. We believe that one mistake should not define a student’s future. With a unique perspective as both a Seminole alum and a trial lawyer, Liana combines compassion and skill to fight for students and young professionals in Tallahassee.

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE THAT MATTERS

Tallahassee presents unique challenges when it comes to DUI enforcement. The combination of college campuses, legislative traffic, and major roadways like I-10, US-90, Tennessee Street, and Monroe Street means law enforcement is highly active in patrolling for impaired driving. DUI checkpoints are common during football season, concerts, and large events, and both city police and university police regularly make DUI arrests involving students. LK Law’s connection to Florida State University and the Tallahassee community provides valuable insight into how these cases are handled in Leon County courts. That local perspective is an advantage we put to work for every client.

PENALTIES FOR DUI IN FLORIDA

Florida law imposes strict penalties for DUI convictions, even for first-time offenders. A driver convicted of DUI can face a suspended license, probation, fines, and in some cases jail time. Additional penalties may include mandatory DUI school, community service, or installation of an ignition interlock device. For college students, the consequences can extend beyond the courtroom — affecting scholarships, campus housing, and disciplinary standing at their university. These risks make it essential to have an experienced defense attorney on your side. LK Law takes every DUI case seriously and works to minimize the impact on your life.

HOW LK LAW FIGHTS DUI CHARGES

Every DUI case is different, but each one must be examined with careful attention to detail. At LK Law, we evaluate whether law enforcement had probable cause for the stop, whether field sobriety exercises were administered properly, and whether breathalyzer results are reliable. We review police reports, video footage, and witness statements to build a defense tailored to your circumstances. Our goal is to identify weaknesses in the prosecution’s case, negotiate aggressively when appropriate, and take your case to trial if necessary. From the first consultation to the final resolution, we are committed to protecting your rights at every stage.

What penalties could I face for a first time DUI?

In Florida, a first-time DUI conviction can result in fines, probation, community service, DUI school, and, in some cases, jail. A license suspension could also be mandatory. If your blood alcohol level was .15 or higher, or if there was a minor in the car, the penalties are more severe. The stakes only increase with repeat offenses, which can include longer jail sentences and mandatory ignition interlock devices.

Can I fight the results of a breathalyzer test?

Breathalyzer results are not always reliable. The instrument must be properly calibrated and maintained, and the test must be conducted according to strict procedures. At LK Law, we examine maintenance logs, operator certifications, and the circumstances of the test to determine if the results can be challenged. Even when a breath test shows a result above the legal limit, there are often defenses that can weaken the prosecution’s case.

Will my DUI case go to trial?

Not every DUI case goes to trial. Many are resolved through negotiations with the State Attorney’s Office. However, if a fair resolution cannot be reached, your case may need to be litigated in the Second Judicial Circuit (Leon County). At LK Law, every case is prepared as though it will go to trial, ensuring that clients are positioned for the best outcome whether their case resolves through negotiation or in court.
